Még május elején olvastam Kennedy Fox Bossing the Cowboy című regényét (ezután akkor közzé is tettem egy értékelést a Goodreads profilomon, ez most annak lesz a bővített változata), viszont a csalódottság érzet még mindig nem múlt el. Szavakkal szinte ki sem tudom fejezni, hogy mennyire izgatottan vártam ennek a könyvnek a megjelenését már azóta, mióta először olvastam Elle-ről és az ő helyzetéről ebben a sorozatban. Arról már nem is beszélve, hogy a Wrangling the Cowboy (ami mellesleg egy nagyszerű regény, olvassátok el) függővége szinte kivégzett engem. Ne aggódjatok, ezt nem úgy értem, hogy Gavin és Maize nem kapja meg a jól megérdemelt happy endjüket, itt csak arra gondoltam, hogy bepillantást nyerünk Elle és Connor történetébe is, és ez volt az, ami miatt már tűkön ülve vártam, hogy végre olvashassam az ő történetüket is.
A Bishop család szinte a szívem csücske, ezek azok a regények, amelyekben bármikor, bármilyen helyzetben vigaszt nyerek, szerintem akár ezerszer is újraolvashatnám mindegyiket, de még akkor sem lenne elegem belőlük. A Bossing the Cowboy is egy számomra tökéletes olvasmánynak tűnt, hiszen:
✓ egy egyedülálló apukáról szól (ezek a történetek szinte egyenlőek a tökéllyel)
✓ a munkahelyi románc van a középpontban, amit még megfűszerez egy kis utálatból-szerelem is (ez a kettő együtt mondhatni mindenen túltesz + személy szerint én még sosem olvastam olyan könyvet, amelyben mind a két főszereplő állatorvos, szóval érthető, hogy nagyon kíváncsi voltam rá)
✓ a sztori főhősnője Elle Bishop, aki nem más, mint Evan és Emily lánya (az ő regényük a legnagyobb kedvencem az egész Bishop Brothers sorozatban, az előző Circle B Ranch kötetekben nem volt valami nagy szerepük, szóval őrülten izgatott voltam, hogy végre még többet olvashassak az ő kis családjukról)
Viszont így, hogy már olvastam is a könyvet, nem tudom azt mondani, hogy imádtam Elle és Connor történetének minden egyes pillanatát. Ez egy egészen új élmény számomra, hiszen addig a pillanatig, amíg el nem kezdtem olvasni ezt a könyvet, az összes Bishop kötetet egytől-egyig imádtam (vagyis hát egyet kivéve, a Roping the Cowboy-t, de ez nem azért van, mert nekem nem tetszett, hanem azért, mert sajnos erre a kisregényre még mindig nem sikerült sort kerítenem, de igen, ettől az egytől eltekintve az összes többi Bishop családról szóló regényt nagyon szerettem).
Szóval igen, a Bossing the Cowboy volt nekem A KÖNYV, amit már alig vártam, hogy a kezeim közé kaparinthassak, el sem tudom mondani nektek, hogy mennyire lelkesen vártam a megjelenését, és most, hónapokkal később is csak a csalódottságot érzem, ha erre a könyvre gondolok.
De mielőtt még nagyon belemerülnék abba, hogy mit szerettem és mit nem ebben a regényben, engedjétek meg nekem, hogy néhány szóban ismertessem veletek a Circle B Ranch sorozat negyedik kötetének alaphelyzetét. Igen, a Bossing the Cowboy a negyedik hosszabb terjedelmű könyve a sorozatnak, viszont anélkül is teljes mértékben élvezni tudjátok, hogy olvastátok volna az előzőeket.

Szóval, a történet női főszereplője Elizabeth (Elle) Bishop, aki Evan és Emily elsőszülött gyermeke, ők a legkedvencebb párosom az egész Bishop Brothers sorozatból, ha még esetleg nem olvastátok volna, az ő regényük a Needing Him címet viseli. Ő egy nagyon határozott ifjú hölgy, aki előtt egy igazán fényes jövő áll. Céltudatos, tudja, hogy mit akar, és bármit is képes megtenni azért, hogy megvalósítsa álmait. Jelenleg egy egyetemi állatorvosi képzés hallgatója, és ahhoz, hogy tanulmányait befejezhesse, szüksége van arra is, hogy gyakorlatot végezzen egy igazi állatorvosi rendelőben. Elle tehát megkezdi gyakorlatát, de ez nem éppen halad a leggördülékenyebben. Connor nagyon azt szeretné, ha fenn tudná tartani a szakmai kapcsolatot közte és Elle között, viszont ezt nem olyan könnyű kivitelezni, ha mind a ketten vonzódnak egymáshoz. Vajon mi lesz Connor és Elle sorsa? Megtudhatjátok, ha elolvassátok Kennedy Fox Bossing the Cowboy című regényét.

Na most, ezen kis összefoglaló alapján egészen jónak hangzik a Bossing the Cowboy, ugye? Lehet, hogy most éppen azon gondolkoztok, hogy vajon miért is nem tetszett ez a történet nekem. Nagyon sok dolog volt ebben a regényben, ami csalódást keltett bennem, és még mindig olyan nehéz ezt nekem leírni, mert én tényleg nagyon imádom ezt a családot, teljes szívemből szeretem a köteteiket, viszont sajnálatos módon én most nem tudom ugyanezt elmondani a Bossing the Cowboy-ról.
Kezdjük azzal, hogy szerintem a könyv első fele sokkal lassabbnak tűnt, sokszor untam magam olvasás közben, ennek legfőképpen az volt az oka, hogy ezek a fejezetek telis-tele vannak nagyon hosszú és rendkívül részletes leírásokkal. Aztán, teljesen váratlanul, nagyon gyorsra vált a történet, mindennek olyan hamar vége, és ez nagy részben az időbeli ugrásoknak köszönhető.
Én azt aláírom, hogy a történet elején szükség van ezekre a korábban játszódó jelentekre is, hiszen ezek nélkül lehetséges, hogy nem kapnánk meg a teljes képet; viszont a könyv második felében sokkal több ilyen ugrás van, és emiatt a könyv olyan elkapkodott érzést keltett bennem. Ha engem kérdeztek, ezeket jócskán megszenvedték a cuki jelenetek, hiszen így rengeteg szívmelengető jelenet helyett csak néhány mondatot kaptunk ezekről a megható élményekről, és így nem kapjuk meg ugyanazt a hatást, mint amiben akkor lenne részünk, ha az írónők ezekre a pillanatokra is sokkal több időt szántak volna.
Had mutassak nektek erre egy példát, hogy jobban szemléltethessem veletek, hogy mi is volt a problémám. Connor szemszögéből a következőt olvashatjuk:

seconds, it came up positive, but neither of us believed it, so she took four
more.
All
positive.
Elle
cried happy tears, and we spent the night celebrating.

months later, we surprised Olivia with a BIG SISTER T-shirt on Christmas Eve
and announced the news to our families at Christmas dinner. As expected, Rose
was overjoyed, and Emily teared up. It was a special moment I’ll never forget.

Ha ez a nap annyira különleges volt, akkor miért csak pár mondatot kaptunk belőle? Ebből egy annyira érzelmekkel teli fejezet is kijöhetett volna, biztos vagyok benne, hogy jobban mosolyt csalt volna az olvasók arcára hosszabban kifejtve, mint néhány mondatban összefoglalva. Hölgyeim és uraim, MI MEG LETTÜNK FOSZTVA ezektől a csodás pillanatoktól.
Én személy szerint nem csak a regény cselekményével kapcsolatban éreztem azt, hogy el lett sietve, szerintem Elle és Connor is nagyon gyorsan haladtak a kapcsolatukkal. Elképesztően cukik együtt, teljes szívemből imádom őket, mind a ketten nagyszerű karakterek, hihetetlenül örülök, hogy együtt megtalálták a boldogságot, de úgy érzem, hogy a kapcsolatuk ábrázolása nagyon el lett kapkodva, főleg, ha még figyelembe is vesszük azokat az eseményeket, amiken Connor-nak és Olivia-nak is át kellett esnie.
Brooke és Lyra nagyon tehetségesek az olyan fordulatok megírásában, amelyek nagyon érzelmesek és szinte már ezeket olvasva még az olvasó szíve is gyorsabban ver, viszont, a Bossing the Cowboy nagy konfliktusa véleményem szerint elég laposra sikeredett. Mikor elkezdett körvonalazódni a probléma, akkor én azt hittem, hogy ennél azért több idő kell arra, hogy mindent meg tudjanak oldani a karakterek, viszont olyan hirtelen le lett zárva ez a szál, szinte nem is tudom elhinni, hogy ennyire gyorsan pontot lehetne tenni egy ilyen ügynek a végére.
Félreértés ne essék, természetesen nagyon örülök, hogy Elle-nek, Connor-nak és a kis Olivia-nak többé nem kell emiatt aggodalmaskodnia, én ezzel csak azt akarom mondani, hogy én lelkiekben már fel voltam készülve egy hatalmas és hosszadalmasabb nehezebb időszakra, viszont ez aligha valósult meg.

Az előző Circle B Ranch regényekben elég sok párbeszédet kapunk a Bishop gyerekek és a szüleik közt, és nekem ezek személy szerint mindig a legnagyobb kedvenceim. A Bossing the Cowboy-ban is van néhány jelenet, amelyekben Elle az unokatestvéreivel és a fivérevel tölt el egy kis időt, és ezek mind nagyszerűek is, viszont én azt kívánom, hogy bárcsak több ilyen került volna ebbe a kötetbe is.
Főleg olyan, amelyben Evan is szerepet kap.
Ó, te jó ég, amikor megkaptam a könyv recenziós példányát, alig vártam, hogy el is kezdhessem végre olvasni, hogy újra olvashassak az egyik legkedvencebb karakteremről is, viszont ő alig mondott pár mondatot az egész történet során. 😭 Lehet, hogy most úgy tűnik, hogy túldramatizálom a helyzetet, de ahogy már említettem is, az előző regényekben olyan sok jelenetet kaptunk az eredeti Bishop testvérekkel, én teljesen abban a hitben éltem, hogy majd a Bossing the Cowboy-jal sem lesz másképp, és kapunk pár olyan fejezetet, amiben Evan és Emily is egy kicsivel nagyobb szerepet kap. Nem tudom, hogy valaki más, aki már olvasta ezt a könyvet, hasonlóképpen érez, mint én, de amikor Elle mindenkinek, de legfőképpen Evan-nek és Emily-nek, bemutatja Connor-t mint a barátját, én azt hittem, hogy majd Evan is az a nagyon őrző-védő típusú apa lesz... de nem ez történt. Csak annyit kérdezett, hogy “Hogy érted, hogy együtt vagytok?”, és ezzel le is lett zárva az ügy. 😐 Nem tudom, hogy ti hogy vagytok vele, de nekem rettentően furcsa, hogy ennyire passzív volt az egész regény során, mintha nem is az az Evan lett volna, akit a Bishop Brothers sorozatban megismertünk.

Nem szeretnék csak a negatívumokról beszélni, hiszen pozitívumokból is akad bőven, szóval most ezekről is szeretnék néhány szót ejteni.
Kezdjük is a legfontosabbakkal: Elle-lel és Connor-ral. Micsoda nagyszerű pár! Connor az egyik legeslegjobb férfi főhős, akiről valaha is olvashattam, a kis Olivia-val közös jeleneteik annyira meghatóak és szeretnivalóak. Elle egy nagyon határozott és inspiráló karakter, pont olyan, mint a szülei is, nagyon tetszett, hogy soha nem adja fel, legyen szó bármiről is. Elle és Connor együttesen az egyik legimádnivalóbb párt alkotják, nagyon édesek és érzelmekkel teliek az együtt töltött pillanataik, nagyon örülök, hogy a másik személyében végre rátaláltak a boldogságra.
Véleményem szerint Elle öccse, Ethan az egyik fénypontja a kötetnek, nagyon szeretem az összes jelenetet, amiben ő is szerepet kapott, már most látszik, hogy mennyire nagyszerű is ő, nagyon remélem, hogy nem törik össze a szívét. A Kissing the Cowboy lesz az ő könyve, ami nem mellesleg idén júliusban fog megjelenni, biztosan el fogom olvasni, a Bossing the Cowboy epilógusa nagyon kíváncsivá tett, már most nagyon érzelmesnek hangzik ez a regény is.

Mindent figyelembe véve, igen, nagyon elszomorít, hogy így lett kivitelezve Elle és Connor története. Ennek ellénre én biztosan el fogom olvasni a sorozat további köteteit is, hiszen mint már azt korábban is említettem, teljes szívmeből szeretem ezeket a karaktereket.

I
have finished reading this book way back in May (after that, I have posted a short review on Goodreads, this will be the extended version of that one), and I am still so extremely
disappointed. Words can not express how excited I have been for this book since I
first met Elle in the previous books and learned about her situation. Not to
mention the fact that the epilogue of Wrangling the Cowboy (which is a
wonderful age gap romance, go read it) definitely killed me (do not worry,
Gavin and Maize get their HEA, but we get a little sneak peek into Elle and
Connor’s story and that is what had me on the edge of my seat).
The
Bishop family has a super special place in my heart, their stories are my
comfort reads, literally I could reread these books like a thousand times and
still I could not get enough of them. Bossing the Cowboy checks all the boxes
for me, because:
✓ single dad romance (this
trope is just *chef’s kiss*)
✓ workplace romance with
enemies to lovers vibe (these tropes together are just on another level + I
have never read a book in which both of the main characters were vets, so I
couldn’t wait to finally read this book)
✓ the heroine of Bossing
the Cowboy is Elle Bishop, who is Evan and Emily's daughter (my biggest
favourite couple from the Bishop Brothers series, of course I was crazy excited
to read more about their little family)
Aside from these, I can not say that I loved everything about Elle and Connor’s, and this is such and unfamiliar feeling to me, because until Bossing the Cowboy I loved each and every Bishop book (well, except one book, Roping the Cowboy, but that is not because I did not like it, it is because I still have not read it, but yeah, apart from this one, I wholeheartedly loved the stories about the Bishops).
So yeah, Bossing the Cowboy was THE BOOK I could not wait to finally read, I literally can not tell you how eager I was to read this novel, and still, months later, I am just so sad that this is how it turned out to be.
But before I dive into the aspects of this novel that I did and I did not like, let me tell you some basic things about the plot of the fourth book in the Circle B Ranch series. Yes, Bossing the Cowboy is the fourth full lenght novel in this series, but it can be read as a standalone. However, it is a lot more enjoyable if you read the previous ones too.

So, the heroine of the story is Elizabeth
(Elle) Bishop, who is the first child of Evan and Emily, they are one of the couple from the original Bishop Brothers series, if you have not read that yet, their book is titled Needing Him. She is a determined young woman who has a bright future waiting for her. She knows what she wants, and always ready to do anything to make her dreams come true. She is currently studying to become a vet, and to reach her goal, she must spend time at a real vet’s office. She interviews for a position at the local one, which is run by Dr. Wallen.
Dr. Connor Wallen runs a very successful veterinary clinic, he is an amazing vet, many people trust in him when it comes to their animals and pets. However, his life in nowhere near perfect. After surviving a super messy divorce with his ex who is more than ready to make his life as difficult as possible, he can barely see his own daughter whom he very much adores. Because of the horrible experience he had and currently he is still having with his ex-wife, he decides that it is for the best if he does not let any women too close to himself. And his plan works perfectly until Elle Bishop steps into his clinic to work for him. Fortunately, she gets the internship.
So, Elle starts to work for Connor, but it is not that easy for either one of them. Connor really wants to keep his relationship with Elle professional, but it is so difficult, especially when they are attracted to each other. Will Connor and Elle get their happily ever after? Read Bossing the Cowboy by Kennedy Fox to find out.

So, based on this little description I gave you, Bossing the Cowboy sounds pretty good, right? Then maybe you are wondering, why I am disappointed? There are many things in this book that made me feel
this way, and it is so hard to write this down, because I seriously love this
family so much, I wholeheartedly adore these books, but I can not say the same
about Bossing the Cowboy.
To start with, I found the first half of the story very slow, I often got bored because of all those lenghty and very detailed descriptions. Then, all of a sudden, the second half is just suprisingly fast, everything happens so quickly, and that is mainly because of those time jumps.
I can definitely understand that at the beginning of the story, some
time jumps were necessary and without these we wouldn’t get the full picture;
but in the second half, there were more time jumps and these just gave a very
rushed feeling to me. If you ask me, there could have been many many
swoonworthy scenes, but the authors just quickly write a few sentences about
these events, and that is it. Show me, don’t tell.
Let me give you an example. In the epilogue, we get a few sentences about Elle and Connor’s
future, and it made me so sad that we did not get full scenes. From Connor’s
point of view, we can read the following:

If
it was such a special moment, then why did we get only a few sentences about it? I
can tell it could have been so super adorable and emotional, it makes me so
upset to see that this is all we got. Ladies and gentlemen, WE WERE ROBBED.
It
was not only the plot that felt rushed to me. In my opinion, Elle and Connor’s
relationship moved so fast too. They are extremely cute together, I love them
with my whole heart, they are both wonderful, I am super happy that they get
their HEA, but still, I feel that their relationship was a little bit rushed,
considering the events Connor and his daughter have been through.
Brooke
and Lyra are pretty amazing in writing plot twists that are so
emotional and make your heart beat faster, but the conflict in Bossing the Cowboy
fell so flat for me. I thought it would take some more time to solve
this problem, but it just ended so suddenly, it is almost impossible to
belive that it really happened that quickly.
Do
not get me wrong, of course I am happy that Elle, Connor and little
Olivia do not have to worry about a conflict like that ever
again, I am just saying that I was ready for a long struggle but basically there was none of that there.❝ For the first time in

Now,
in the previous books, we get quite a lot dialogues between the Bishop kids and
the parents, and to me, those are always the highlights of the books. In
Bossing the Cowboy, we get some scenes with Elle and her cousins and her
brother, and those are pretty amazing, but I just would have loved if there
were a tiny bit more.
Especially with Evan.
Oh my goodness when I have received
the ARC, I could not wait to dive in just so I could meet him again and he
barely said a few sentences. 😭
Maybe it sounds a little bit dramatic, but due to the fact that we get so many
scenes with the parents in the previous books, I thought there would be a
little bit more scenes with Evan and Emily in this book too. I don’t know if
somebody else feels the same too, but when Elle introduces Connor as her
boyfriend to her family, and most importantly, to Evan and Emily, I thought
that Evan would be super protective and get all macho... and it did not happen.
He just asked “What do you mean dating?”... and that was it. 😐 I don’t know, it
was just weird to me that he was very passive throughout the whole book, it is like he is not the Evan we get to know in the Bishop Brothers series.

I
do not want to talk only about the negative stuff, so I would like to mention
some aspects of the book that I loved.
To start with: Elle and Connor. What an
incredibly amazing couple! Connor is one of the best heroes I have ever read
about, his scenes with little Olivia was absolutely precious and heartwarming.
Elle is a super determined and inspiring character, just as her parents, I love
that she does not give up at all. Elle and Connor together are one of the
cutest couples ever, they share many adorable and super emotional moments, and
I am so happy that they get their HEA. 💚
In
my opinion Ethan, Elle’s younger brother, is one of the highlights of this
book, I absolutely love every scenes with him in it, he is so amazing, I really
hope he won’t get his heart broken. 🥺 Kissing the Cowboy, the next book in
the series, will be his, and I will definitely read it, I am super curious,
especially after reading the epilogue of Bossing the Cowboy, his story already
sounds so emotional.

I heard Stephen sent you flowers,” Ethan sing-songs as we clear the extra food
off the table from our Thanksgiving lunch. I groan with an eyeroll. “Mom said
you rejected him. Really think you should be turning guys down at your age?”
“Oh
my God.” I sucker punch him in the shoulder. “You’re a pain in the ass. Go
away.” ❞
Taking
everything into account, yes, it saddens me to see that this is how Elle and
Connor's story turned out. However, I will read the upcoming novels in the
Circle B Ranch series, because as I have already mentioned before, I
wholeheartedly love these characters.
