Hú, nemrég értem Charity Ferrell Gorgeous Monster című alkotásának a végére, és még mindig nehéznek találom szavakba önteni az érzéseimet. Az már biztos, hogy elég durva egy menet volt. Meg merem kockáztatni, hogy ez volt az egyik legsötétebb romantikus regény, amit valaha olvastam. 

Egyszerűen annyira imádtam, hogy amióta befejeztem, nem is tudok más könyvet elkezdeni, csak ezek a karakterek járnak a fejemben, és annyira, de annyira olvasnám már a Marchetti Mafia következő követét. Ezzel viszont csak egy ici-pici baj van. Jövő márciusban fog megjelenni. Miért van az, hogy minden jó maffia regény márciusban fog megjelenni? (Mila Finelli Mafia Target című regénye is akkor fog megjelenni.)

A Gorgeous Monser főhősnője Natalia Carprio, akinek az élete az elmúlt időszakban teljesen a feje tetejére fordult. Az ex-barátja, Vinny, maffiacsaládban nevelkedett, és jelenleg ő az édesapjának az örököse, ezáltal pedig elvárják tőle, hogy tartsa be a rá kiszabott szabályokat, mint például azt, hogy nem vehet el akárkit, érdekházasságot kell majd kötnie. Natalia egy bizonyos kijelentés után szakít Vinnyvel, amit enyhén szólva nem visel jól a férfi, hiszen a szakítás után Vinny vérdíjat tűzött ki Nataliara. Vinny úgy van vele, ha nem lehet az övé a lány, akkor senkié se legyen.

Natalia végső kétségbeesésében ahhoz az emberhez fordul, aki kétségtelenül védelmet tud számára biztosítani. Ő pedig nem más, mint Christian Marchetti, Natalia legjobb barátnőjének az édesapja.

Christian Marchetti egy maffiavezér, és csak ő képes arra, hogy megvédje Nataliat Vinny bosszúvágyától. Viszont ennek a védelemnek is megvan a maga ára... Hogy mi is az? Megtudhatjátok, ha elolvassátok Charity Ferrell Gorgeous Monster című alkotását.

Charity Ferrell írónőtől ugyan még csak egy könyvet olvastam, és az teljesen más stílusú volt, mint a Gorgeous Monster, az érzelmeimre viszont nagyon hatott, szóval egy igazán maradandó élmény volt számomra a Just One Night (ha szeretitek a váratlan terhességről szóló történeteket, akkor érdemes ennek is adni egy esélyt). Ha jól tudom, akkor az írónőnek a Gorgeous Monster volt a legelső dark romance témájú regénye, és azt kell mondjam, hogy szerintem egészen ütősen kezdet volt ez. Jól szőtte a szálakat, izgalmas volt, egy fél másodpercig nem unatkoztam, és amikor már azt hittem, hogy teljesen megismertem a karatkereket és szándékaikat, akkor bumm, jött egy nagy csavar.

Christian és Natalia tökéletes párra találtak egymásban, igazán jól kiegészítik egymást. Imádtam, hogy Natalia nem félt kimondani azt, amit valójában gondolt, szórakoztató kis szóváltások születtek az ő megszólalásaiból. A bátorsága lenyűgöző, nekem már az első perctől kezdve nagyon szimpatikus volt.

Na, de Christiannel már nem volt ilyen egyszerű dolgom, néhány kijelentésével kifejezetten az agyamra ment, bőven kellett idő, mire sikerült megkedvelnem. A körülményeket tekintve pedig szerintem ez teljesen érthető. A végére viszont sikerült a szívembe zárnom őt is, bár szerettem volna egy kicsit többet kapni ebből a gyengéd oldalából.

Úgy érzem, hogy Christian és Natalia szerelme a kötet második felében egy kicsit el lett sietve. Nekem olyan hirtelen jöttek a nagy érzelmek, a „szeretleket” is egy kicsit még korainak éreztem, szerintem lehetett volna még hosszabb ez a regény, hogy jobban ki tudjanak forrni az egymás iránt érzett kötődésük. ! SPOILER VESZÉLY ! Ennek következtében, én azt is nagyon elhamarkodottnak éreztem, hogy ők ketten ilyen hamar gyermeket vállaltak. Örültem a boldogságuknak, de véleményem szerint kettejüknek egy kicsit több időt kellett volna egy baba érkezése előtt eltölteni. ! VÉGE A SPOILER RÉSZLEGNEK !

Gigi, Natalia legjobb barátnője és Christian lánya, sajnos nem szerepelt sokat ebben a kötetben, viszont a vége felé volt egy igazán érdekes megjegyzése, ami azonnal felkeltette a kíváncsiságomat. ! SPOILER VESZÉLY !

“If they try to fuck with me, I will.” My words come out slower. “Is there a reason you don’t want me to?”

She pretends to examine her fingernails. “Of course not.”

“Gigi, secrets don’t stay secrets for long.” ❞

 

Akkor most ez azt jelenti, hogy Gigi valószínűleg egy Lombardival fog összejönni? Én személy szerint erre nagyon is vevő lennék. ! VÉGE A SPOILER RÉSZLEGNEK !

A könyv olvasása közben én egészen sokáig azt hittem, hogy ha Benny kötetei is meg fog jelenni, akkor abban róla és Grecthenről olvashatunk majd. Ezért ért váratlanul a Gorgeous Monster epilógusa, hiszen hűha, micsoda lezárás volt ez! Benny Grecthennel is érdekes páros lett volna, de te jó ég, Neomivel egy teljesen új szintre léptünk. Azt még mindig nem tudom, hogyan fogom én kibírni márciusig, de már most van egy olyan érzésem, hogy az ő történetükre megéri várni.

“Are getting married, yes,” I reply, running a hand over my jaw. “Don’t give her a hard time on that.”

She holds up a finger. “A.) She’s my best friend, I’d never.” Another finger goes up. “B.) It’s better than having a stepmother I can’t stand… or one who tells me to eat more vegetables.”

I cock my head to the side. “No one has ever told you that.”

“That was me saying, I approve.” She crosses her legs and blows out a breath. “I also appreciate it gives me a free pass.”

“Excuse me?”

“A free pass to date whoever I want because all I’ll need to say is, Well, you married my best friend.” ❞

 

Mindent figyelembe véve, Charity Ferrell Gorgeous Monster című alkotása rabul ejtette a lelkemet. Szinte faltam a sorait. Ha szeretitek a dark romance regényeket, akkor mindenképpen kerítsetek erre is sort, szerintem sokatok kedvencévé fog válni.

Az egyetlen ok, amiért nem tudom öt csillaggal illetni azt a könyvet az az, hogy a vége felé tényleg nagyon elsietettnek éreztem a szerelmi szálat. Ettől eltekintve viszont én igazán lebilincselőnek találtam Christian és Natalia történetét.

Huh, a few days passed since I have finished reading Gorgeous Monster by Charity Ferrell, and I still find it quite challenging to put my feelings into words. One thing I am 100% sure about is that it was a wild ride. I would even say that it was one of the darkest novels I have ever read.

I loved the story of Christian and Natalia so much that days after finishing it, I can only think about them, and right now, I am kinda in a book hangover, I just can not pick up anything else, I want the next intallment of the Marchetti Mafia series. Unfortunately, a teeny-tiny problem makes it impossible for me to do so right now. It releases in March. Why is it that all mafia romances that sound good will be released in March? (Mafia Target by Mila Finelli is also releasing in March.)

The heroine of Gorgeous Monster is Natalia Carprio, whose life took a 180-degree turn. Her ex-boyfriend, Vinny, is a member of a mafia family, he is the heir of his father, and he grew up with quite a few expectations that were placed upon him, namely not chosing his own wife and having an arranged marriage. After something he said, Natalia broke up with him, and let’s just say that he did not take it well. Like at all. As a revenge, Vinny puts out a hit on Natalia, because if he can not have her, then no one else will.

Natalia, out of desperation, reaches out for someone who can garantee that Vinny or anyone else will not get their hands on her. And that someone is none other than Christian Marchetti, who is the father of Natalia’s best friend.

Christian Marchetti is a mafia leader, and he is the only one who can save Natalia from Vinny’s wrath. But his service has its own price... What is that price? You can find out if you decide to read Gorgeous Monster by Charity Ferrell.

Before reading Gorgeous Monster, I have read only one book written by Charity Ferrell, titled Just One Night, and although it dealt with a completely different topic, its emotional appeal was extremely powerful and it was an unforgettable reading experience for me. (If you like surprise pregnancy romances, check out this one too.) If I remember well, Gorgeous Monster is her very first dark romance novel, and in my opinion, she entered this trope with a bang. Her storytelling skills are wonderful, this book was super exciting, it did not get me bored even for a half second, and when I thought that I figured out these characters and their motives and everything about them, then bam, an unexpected twist left me shocked.

Christian and Natalia are so perfect for each other, they are really compatible. I absolutely adored that Natalia is not afraid to say what is on her mind, her doing that usually resulted in some pretty entertaining bantering sessions. She is really brave, and I think she is a very loveable character.

On the other hand, it took me quite a while to like Christian, and I think given the circumstances, it is understandable. Most of the time, he got me crazy, but by the end, he showed his softer side too, and I really wish we got more of that.

In my opinion, the romance line of Christian and Natalia’s story is kind of rushed near the end. For me, all those big emotions came out of the blue, I felt that they said their I love yous a little too early and I feel that if the book would have been a little bit longer, their feelings could have time to develop more naturally.  ! SPOILER ALERT ! As a result of this, I also felt that them having a baby was a little bit too rushed too. Do not get me wrong, I am happy that they are happy, but I think they needed some more time together, alone to grow as a couple, before adding a new member to their family. ! Gigi, Natalia’s best friend and Christian’s daughter, does not have a big role in this novel, but near the end, she says something that really tickled my curiosity. ! SPOILER ALERT !

So, does that mean that Gigi’s love interest will be a member of the Lombardi family? If so, I am super intrigued by that idea. ! END OF THE SPOILER SECTION !

While I was reading this book, I thought that if we ever got Benny’s story, his love interest would be Gretchen. So that is why the epilogue of Gorgoeus Monster surprised me a lot, because wow, what an epilogue that was! He would have made an interesting couple with Gretchen, but the  author took everything to a whole new level with Noemi. I still do not know what I am going to do with myself until March, but I already have a feeling that their story will worth the wait.

Taking everything into account, Gorgeous Monster by Charity Ferrell completely captivated my soul. I was flying through it. If you love dark romances, then I think you should really give this book a chance, I really do believe that it will become a new favourite for a lot of you.

The only reason I am not giving this book 5 stars is that I really do feel that near the end, the romance line was kinda rushed. Otherwise, it was a super gripping story.
