Mila Finelli írónő munkásságára idén nyáron figyeltem fel, amikor többször is szembejött velem a The Kings of Italy című alkotása az Instagramon. A sorozat nyitókötetének, a Mafia Mistress-nek, a fülszövege nagyon felkeltette az érdeklődésemet, úgyhogy bele is vetettem magam Fausto és Francesca történetének az olvasásába, ami szinte teljesen magába is szippantott. Egyszerűen imádtam, és tűkön ülve vártam a Mafia Madman megjelenését, ami hasonlóan pozitív olvasási élményt nyújtott számomra.
A napokban valahogy nem igazán vonzott egy könyv sem, éreztem, hogy ebből egy olvasási válság lesz, és annak érdekében, hogy elkerüljem, úgy döntöttem, hogy jó lenne újraolvasni valamit. Mivel nagyon hiányoztak már a The Kings of Italy karakterei (ami nagyon durva, hiszen múlt hónapban is olvastam róluk), úgy döntöttem, hogy ismét sort kerítek erre a sorozatra.

A tizennyolc esztendős Francesca Mancini a kanadai maffia fejének a legidősebb lánya. Két húga van, Emma és Gia, akik egyben ikrek is. A történet kezdetén nem valami könnyű megkedvelni Faustot, és őszintén megmondva, a későbbiekben sem tette egyszerűvé azt számomra, hogy teljes mértékben megszeressem. Ami a legjobban zavart a karakterében az az, hogy ő szinte állandóan csak az intimitással volt elfoglalva. Az elhamarkodott döntéseivel gyakran az agyamra ment, ő tipikusan az a karakter volt, aki előbb cselekszik, és csak aztán gondolkodik.
Frankie egy zseniális főhősnő, a korához képest rendkívül értetten viselkedett, és amit a legjobban imádtam benne az nem más, mint hogy nem hagyja, hogy Fausto minden egyes lépését irányítsa. Kiállt saját magáért és a szeretteiért is. Voltak bőven nézeteltéréseik, de szerencsére kisebb-nagyobb bonyodalmak árán sikerült megoldást találniuk a problémáikra, és ezek igazán összekovácsolták őket. Az már annyira nem tetszett, hogy előfordult, hogy szerintem túl hamar megbocsájtott Faustonak. Elég sok megkérdőjelezhető dolgot tett vele a férfi, és nem gondolom, hogy száz százalékosan beletett mindent annak érdekében, hogy kiengesztelje Frankiet.
Giulio az egyik legeslegjobb mellékszereplő, akiről valaha is olvashattam, már az első feltűnése alkalmával teljesen megvett magának. Egy kicsit meg is könnyeztem (kicsit? na jó, nagyon), amikor ! SPOILER VESZÉLY ! megtudja, hogy nem muszáj úgy élnie, ahogy a többiek a maffiában, szabadon távozhat, és úgy élheti az életét, ahogy csak szeretné. Aztán akkor is elérzékenyültem, amikor elérkeztünk ahhoz a pillanathoz, amikor ténylegesen elhagyja a családi fészket, ! VÉGE A SPOILER RÉSZLEGNEK ! és számomra az is nagyon megható volt, amikor a féltestvére, Raffaele, születésnapján meglátogatja őket. És ha már megemlítettem őt is, én kifejezetten örülnék neki, ha a jövőben Raffaele és a kishúga, Noemi, történetét is olvashatnánk, szerintem nagyon érdekes lenne látni őket felnőttként. És bár arról még nincs információ, hogy vajon róluk olvashatunk-e majd bővebben is a jövőben, azt már biztosan tudjuk, hogy Giulioé lesz a The Kings of Italy sorozat következő kötete. A Mafia Target várhatóan jövő márciusban fog megjelenni, és ó te jó ég, hát én még mindig nem tudtam teljesen feldolgozni azt, hogy Alessandro lesz az ő párja. Micsoda elképesztő hír, micsoda elképesztő pár! Már alig várom, hogy végre olvashassam a történetüket, annyira, de annyira nagyon kell ez nekem. Hogyan leszek én képes márciusig várni?
Giulio mellett számos szerethető mellékszereplő is feltűnik a színen, mint például Marco és Zia. Zia egy imádnivaló idős hölgy, képtelenség nem szeretni. Marco egy rendkívül hűséges férfi, én személy szerint kíváncsi lennék rá is, szívesen elolvasnék egy olyan könyvet, amelyben ő az egyik főszereplő. Őszintén bevallva, én nagyon sajnáltam Enzot, de legfőképpen akkor esett meg rajta a szívem, amikor az ő szemszögéből is olvashattam. Amikor legeslegelső alkalommal kerítettem sort Fausto és Frankie duológiájára, és elértem a történetük végéhez, az utolsó mondat után jött ugye az a rész, ahol az írónő beharangozza a sorozat következő kötetét. Amikor megtudtam, hogy Enzo és Gia a főszereplői, alig hittem a szememnek. Egyre csak az járt a fejemben, hogy Enzo és Gia? Frankie kishúga? ! SPOILER VESZÉLY ! És az a férfi, aki elrabolta Frankiet? ! VÉGE A SPOILER RÉSZLEGNEK ! Hűha, hát még most is nehezen tudnám szavakba foglalni, hogy mennyire izgatott voltam. Augusztusban a megjelenés után rögtön el is olvastam, és azt kell mondjam, egyáltalán nem kellett csalódnom benne. De hamarosan hozok majd egy értékelést a Mafia Madmanről is, amelyben majd bővebben mesélek nektek az olvasási élményeimről.

Mindent figyelembe véve, Mila Finelli egy olyan lenyűgöző karakterekkel megáldott világot alkotott meg, amelyről bármikor és bármennyit szívesen olvasnék. Egyáltalán nem tökéletes, és tény, hogy néhány karakter a megszólalásával és egyes cselekedetével néha az agyamra ment (khm, Fausto), de ettől eltekintve én egyszerűen szeretem. Akciódús, leköti a figyelmem, csak úgy pörögtek a lapok, észre sem vettem, és már vége is lett. Az adrenalinbombával felturbózott és a szívmelengető romantikus jelenetek szerintem elég jó egyensúlyban voltak, nem éreztem, hogy az egyik a másik kárára ment volna. Dark romance rajongók, szerintem érdemes egy esélyt adnotok ennek a sorozatnak is. Titkok, cselszövés, árulás, szenvedély. Öveket becsatolni, rázós út vár rátok!

Mila Finelli was a new author to me, her books caught my interest this summer because I have seen so many bookstagrammers praising her series titled The Kings of Italy. After reading the blurb of Mafia Mistress, I immediately wanted to read it, so I got it without any hesitation. The story of Fausto and Francesca completely drew me in, I really enjoyed it, and I was so incredibly impatiently waiting for the release of Mafia Madman. And let me tell you, it was just as good as Mafia Mistress and Mafia Darling.
In the past few days, I have not really felt drawn to any books, and I just knew it was a sign for an incoming reading slump, so I wanted to avoid that with rereading a favourite book of mine. Because I really missed the characters of The Kings of Italy series (and for me, it is just so crazy, I literally read about them last month), I thought it was the perfect time to revisit them.

The 18 years old Francesca Mancini is the oldest daughter of the head of the Canadian mafia. She has two younger sisters, Gia and Emma, who are twins. Their mother died when they were young, and Frankie basically took up the role of the mother, mostly she was the one who took care of the twins. While her family is in the mafia, she was promised that she could go to college and not become a young mafia wife. In the beginning of the story, she is really excited about attending college, but soon someone robs her of her dreams. And that someone is none other than Fausto Ravazzani.
Fausto is also in the mafia business, and Francesca’s father owes him. To settle this debt, Roberto and Fausto set up an arranged marriage for their children, for Francesca and Guilio. Guilio is the only son of Fausto, and Fausto wants him to settle into the proper mafia life as soon as possible. And that includes an arranged marriage.
Francesca is ready to do anything to be the one who controls her life and decides what to do with it, but despite her great effort, she finds herself in Italy, as the fiancée of Giulio. As much as she hates Fausto for doing this to her, she can not deny that she is attracted to his fiancé’s father. But can she resist the temptation? In the beginning, it is kinda hard to love Fausto, and to be honest, he does not make it easy to love him later either. It bothers me so much that most of the time, he seems to focus only on sex. He makes so many snap decisions and comes to a conlusion so quickly, he made me so mad, he is definitely someone who acts first and then starts to think about his actions.
Frankie is an awesome heroine, despite her age, she was very mature, I love that she is so strong and does not let Fausto to control her. She stands up for herself and her loved ones. On the other hand, I did not like that sometimes she forgets Fausto way too quickly. He makes some very questionable decisions that include Frankie, and I do not think that he grovels enough.
Giulio is one of the best secondary characters I have ever read about, I loved him from the very first second. I actually shed some tears (okay, a lot) when ! SPOLIER ALERT ! he finds out that he can leave the mafia and live his life however he wants to. I was super emotional when he actually leaves his family ! END OF THE SPOILER SECTION ! and the epilogue scene, when he visits them for his little stepbrother’s, Raffele’s, birthday, made me cry too (but these were mostly happy tears). And now, because I mentioned him, I think it would be so awesome if we get to read more about Raffele and his sister, Noemi, in the future, I would love to read their their stories too. But what we do know is that Giulio’s book is the next in this series (titled Mafia Target, and it will be released in March 2023), and oh my god, I still can not believe that Alessandro is his love interest! It is still so mindblowing, what a couple! I can not wait to read their book, I need it so bad! How am I supposed to wait until March?
Besides Giulio, this book has so many amazing supporting characters, like Marco and Zia. Zia is such a wonderful lady, I think it is impossible not to love her. Marco is such a loyal guy, I would love to read his story too. And actually, I felt sorry for Enzo, especially while I was reading the chapters that were written from his point of view. When I read Fausto and Frankie’s duet for the very first time, and after the epilogue, the author mentions that the next book is about Enzo and Gia, I basically could not believe my eyes. I just thought, Enzo and Gia? That Gia? Frankie’s little sister? ! SPOILER ALERT ! And the guy who kidnapped Frankie? ! END OF THE SPOILER SECTION ! Oh boy, I still can not find words to desribe how excited I was for their story! I have already read it, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. I just wish it was longer. But I will write a review about Mafia Madman too and I will talk about my reading experiences in more detail.

Taking everything into account, Mila Finelli created a world filled with so many unforgettable characters that I would wholeheartedly love to read about anytime, I already feel that I could never get enough of it. It is far from perfect, and although some characters drove me crazy with what they say and how they act (khm, Fausto), I find this series irresistible and I can’t help but love it. Fausto and Francesca’s duet is action-packed, my eyes were glued to my Kindle, and before I knew it, I got to the very last sentence. In my opinion, the author created a really great balance between the scenes that give you an adrenaline rush and the scenes that make you swoon. Dark romance fans, I think you should give this series a chance. Secrets, schemes, betrayal, passion. Buckle in, it will be a bumpy ride!
