Rebecca Jenshak az egyike azon írónőknek, akiknek a munkásságával az idei év során ismerkedtem meg. A februári hónap során egy kedves barátnőm ajánlására kezdtem el olvasni a Campus Nights című sorozatát, és akkor annyira magával ragadtak ezek a történetek, hogy egyből hármat el is olvastam.

A Wild Love méltó befejezése lett a Campus Nights sorozatnak, sokkal többet kaptam annál, mint amire számítottam. Vegyes érzések kavarognak bennem, hiszen búcsút kellett intenem kedvenc karaktereimnek, de ugyanakkor ugyanakkor boldogság önti el a szívemet, számos felejthetetlen pillanatot köszönhetek ezeknek a pároknak.

Már a Secret Puck-tól kezdve Johnny volt a legnagyobb kedvencem, ódákat zengtem róla, és nagyon vissza kellett fognom magam, hogy ne ugorjak egyből a Wild Love-hoz, amiben is ő az egyik főszereplő. Nagy általánosságban, amikor elkezdek olvasni egy olyan könyvsorozatot, amelyben minden egyes kötetben más pár kapja a főszerepet, én mindig egy olyan karakterrel szimpatizálok a legjobban, akire csak az utolsó részben kerül sor. Ilyenkor általában mindig az a helyzet, mint a Wild Love esetében is, nagyon nehezen tudom rávenni magam, hogy a megfelelő sorrend szerint olvassam az adott sorozat köteteit.

Február óta azonban mindig csak halogattam Dakota és Johnny történetének olvasását. Ez több mint valószínűleg azért történt, mert ez a regény a Campus Nights zárókötete, és én valamilyen oknál fogva mindig nagyon nehezen tudok elszakadni egy-egy általam nagyon szeretett sorozattól. Azonban a napokban kedvet kaptam az olyan könyvekhez, amelyek a barátságból-szerelem témáját dolgozzák fel, szóval végre eljött annak az ideje is, hogy sort kerítettem a Wild Love-ra.

A Wild Love női főszereplője Dakota Lawrence. Dakota a baráti körének utolsó egyedülálló lánya, és ezért sajnos gyakran magányos, és úgy érzi, hogy egy kicsit kilóg a sorból. Az elkövetkezendő pár hét lesz az utolsó, amikor mindannyian így együtt vannak, hiszen az utána következő időszakban szétválnak útjaik. Dakotának most azon kell törnie a fejét, hogy a szakmai gyakorlatát hol is fogja elvégezni. Azonban arra még ő sem számít, hogy életének egyik legnagyobb lehetősége fog hamarosan az ölébe pottyanni.

A történet férfi főszereplője Johnny Maverick. A baráti társaságának ő a vicces figurája, bármiféle szituációval is került szembe, ő mindig képes volt mindenkinek mosolyt csalni az arcára. Azonban az ő élete sem teljesen problémamentes, boldogságát beárnyékolja a szüleivel, pontosabban az édesapjával, való nem egészen felhőtlen kapcsolata. Dakotával már régóta nagyon jó barátok, tagadhatatlan, hogy megvan köztük az a bizonyos szikra, viszont egészen eddig, az apróbb kis flörtöléseken kívül, a barátság keretein belül tartották kettejük kapcsolatát. Viszont lassacskán mindkettejük számára egyre nehezebbnek bizonyul ellenállni a csábításnak.

Egy nap. Még ennyi sem kellett, és a végére értem egy több mint háromszáz oldal hosszú könyvnek. Ez is csak azt bizonyítja, hogy Rebecca Jenshak-nak egy nagyon könnyen olvasható, magával ragadó történetet sikerült megalkotnia.

Az első néhány fejezet nagyon érzelmesre sikeredett, bár Johnny-nak köszönhetően akadtak ezekben is bőven humorosabb jelenetek, mégis nagy szívfájdalommal olvastam, nehezen sikerült visszafognom a könnyeimet.

Nagyon szeretem az állatokat, ezért mindig nagy lelkesedéssel vágom bele magam egy olyan könyvnek az olvasásába, amelyben kiskedvencek is szerepelnek. Már a Campus Nights előző köteteiben is számos jelenetben feltűnik Mav a kiskutyája, Charli kíséretében, de szerintem a cukiságfaktort ebben a részben sikerült kimaxolniuk. Mivel nem tudok betelni velük, ezért engedjétek meg, hogy mutassak nektek néhány idézetet a ő főszereplésükben:

❝ Charli’s on the floor at my feet. I pat my lap, and she jumps up, makes a circle, and lays down. Dakota reaches over and scratches under her chin. Charli wiggles forward so her face is on Dakota’s leg, and that’s how we watch the rest of the movie. ❞ Egy tökéletes este leírása.

❝ When we get close, Dakota navigates me through her hometown. I stop at the pizza place, and she runs in to get our order. Charli puts her paws up on the dash watching her.

Someone stops her at the doorway, and they embrace. Charli and I look on. My dog whines.

“I know. I know. She’s coming back.” I pat her back. ❞ Hát meg kell zabálni, mennyire cuki már!

  

❝ “Guess you’re staying with me tonight,” I tell her. She snuggles in tighter against my chest.

Back on the second floor, I push into my apartment and come up short. Maverick lays on the pink couch. His mouth gapes open, and one tattooed arm is over his eyes.

“Correction,” I say quietly, putting Charli on the ground. She jogs over and jumps up next to him. He doesn’t open his eyes, but wraps an arm around her in his sleep. “I guess you’re both staying with me tonight.” ❞ Johnny Maverick az imádnivaló kutyusával alszik egy rózsaszín kanapén. Egy ilyen látványról én sem szívesen maradnék le.

 

❝ Inside, I grab Charli and we lie on the god-awful pink couch. Charli jumps down with a whine and jogs around as if she’s looking for Kota. ❞ Ez a mondat már alapból az érzelmesebb résznél olvasható, és simán képes volt a szomorúságomat egy teljesen új szintre emelni.

 

Nehezen találok szavakat arra, milyen boldog voltam, hogy a Campus Nights már megalakult párjai több jelenetben is szerepet kaptak ebben a regényben is. Szívmelengető volt olvasni, hogy ennyire jó barátok maradtak annak ellenére is, hogy a Wild Love cselekményének ideje alatt nem éppen tudtak sok időt együtt eltölteni, de ennek dacára is mindig számíthattak egymásra. ! SPOILER VESZÉLY ! Ezt mi sem bizonyítaná jobban, mint például az, hogy miután Dakota sírva felhívja Reagan-t a Johnny-val való szakítása után, Reagan nem is kérdez semmit, egyből kijelenti, hogy már foglalja is le a repülőjegyet, és indul Dakotához. Igaz, hogy erre végül nem került sor, hiszen Dakota kijelentette, hogy ő utazik haza, de miután ezt Reagan is megtudta, kijelentette, hogy várni fog rá, és számíthat rá. Ki ne szeretne ilyen barátokat? ! VÉGE A SPOILER RÉSZLEGNEK !

Kifejezetten jó volt arról olvasni, hogy Ginny és Heath, Adam és Reagan, valamint Rhett és Sienna tetőtől-talpig szerelmesek egymásba, annyira imádom őket. ! SPOILER VESZÉLY ! Nem számítottam arra, hogy egy meglepetés eljegyzésnek is szemtanúi lehetünk ebben a regényben, úristen hát annyira aranyos volt Rhett és Sienna együtt. ! VÉGE A SPOILER RÉSZLEGNEK !

Johnny új csapattársai szerintem igazán gyorsan az ember szívéhez nőnek, bízom benne, hogy a jövőben majd róluk is olvashatunk. Jelenleg leginkább Jack-re vagyok kíváncsi, egy kifejezetten lenyűgöző karaktert ismerhettünk meg személyében.

 

❝ He takes one end of the pillow and uses it to tug me onto the couch next to him. “Running away?”

“Being the sane one,” I say.

His gaze drops to my lips, and I wet them with my tongue instinctively.

“Sane is boring. Let’s be wild. (…)” ❞

 

Mindent figyelembe véve, Rebecca Jenshak Wild Love című regénye tökéletes ötvözete mindannak, amit imádok egy romantikus történetben: barátságból szerelem, az ellentétek vonzzák egymást, sportos témájú (bónusz pont, amiért jégkorongos), karakterek, akik nagyon gyorsan belopják magukat az olvasó szívébe, nagyszerű írásmód, érdekfeszítő cselekmény, ígéretes új szereplők.

A Campus Nights kötetek elolvasása volt az egyik legjobb olvasási döntés, amelyet valaha meghoztam. Bátran merem mindenkinek ajánlani, aki egy letehetetlen jégkorongos, főiskolán játszódó romantikus könyvsorozatra vágyik.

Rebecca Jenshak is one of the authors whose books I started to read this year. During the month of February, one of my sweet friends recommended her Campus Nights series to me. This author managed create such a captivating world with many wonderful characters, I could not stop at reading just one novel, I binge read two more.

Wild Love is the perfect conclusion to the Campus Nights series, it exceeded all my expectations. Finishing this was definitely a bittersweet feeling, I am sad because I had to say goodbye to some of my favourite fictional couples, but I am also happy, because reading about these characters was definitely an unforgettable experience.

Johnny has been my biggest favourite character ever since I have started reading Secret Puck. I just simply could not stop talking about him and how much I loved him, it was really hard for me not to jump straight into his story, which is titled Wild Love. Most of the time, when I start reading a series, which is made up of interconnected standalones, the one character that really has my heart is the one whose story is the very last one in the series. When this happens, just as in the case of Wild Love, I find it super hard not to skip every book before that partiular one, it is a challenge to convince myself that I should read them in order.

Since February, I have been putting off reading Dakota and Johnny’s story. Most probably because their book is the last one in the Campus Nights series, and reading it just felt so final for me, it meant that I really had to say goodbye to my favourite characters. However, in the past couple of days, I have been in the mood for a story that deals with the topic of friends-to-lovers, so finally it was time for me to read Wild Love.

The heroine of Wild Love is Dakota Lawrence. Dakota is the only one in her friend group who is still single, and because of that, sometimes she kind of feels lonely and like she is the odd one out. After this semester ends, they will all go their separate ways. Right now, what makes Dakota’s life a little bit harder is that she has to find a place where she can complete her internship. However, soon, her life will take a huge turn, becasue she will get an offer she can hardly say no to.

The hero of the story is Johnny Maverick, who is the jokester of his friend group. He is typically the type of person who can make anyone in any situation smile. Nevertheless, his life is far from perfect, his happiness is overshadowed by the fact that he is not on the best terms with his parents, more exactly, with his father. Dakota is one if his best friends, and although it is undeniable that sparks fly when Dakota and Johnny are near each other, so far, except from some occasional flirting, they managed to keep their relationship within the boundaries of friendship. But slowly, resisting this attraction getting harder and harder for both of them.

Will they give into the temptation? You can find out if you decide to read Wild Love by Rebecca Jenshak.

One day. I did not even need one day to finish this book. This only proves that Rebecca Jenshak managed to create such a captivating and unputdownable story.

The first few chapters of Wild Love are super emotional, although there are some fun scenes in those too thanks to Johnny, but still, it was a challenge for me to keep my tears at bay.

I absolutely adore animals, so if I discover that a book has pets in it, it instantly lands on my to-be-read list. We can meet Mav in company of his little dog, Charli, in the previous Campus Nights novels too, but if you ask me, they take cuteness to the whole new level in this one. I simply can not get enough of them, so let me show you some of my favourite scenes featuing Mav and Charli.

Now, that is something I would love to see as well.

Charli jumps down with a whine and jogs around as if she’s looking for Kota. ❞ This sentence can be found in one of the emotional chapters, and I was already sad while reading this part of the book, but this one single sentence alone took my sadness to a whole new level.

 

Words simply can not describe how happy I am that the couples from the previous Campus Nights novels also appear in a few scenes in Wild Love. It was so heartwarming to see that their friendship is still so strong. Despite the fact that in this book they can not spend a lot of time together, they can still count on each other. ! SPOILER ALERT ! What really proves that for example is when Dakota calls Reagan after she ended her relationship with Johnny. Seeing her friend crying and devastated, Reagan does not ask anything, just says that she is buying the airplane ticket and going to Dakota. Although this does not happen, Dakota says that there is no need for that because she is the one who is coming home, Reagan instantly says that she will be waiting for her. Who would not love to have friends like Reagan? ! END OF THE SPOILER SECTION !

It was incredibly awesome to meet Ginny and Heath, Adam and Reagan, and Rhett and Sienna again. They are so in love with each other, I wholeheartedly love them. ! SPOILER ALERT ! I did not know that we would get a proposal scene in Wild Love, oh my goodnees, just how cute Rhett and Sienne are together! My heart is so full with happiness. ! END OF THE SPOILER SECTION !

It is really easy to get attached to the new teammates of Johnny, I hope we will be able to read more about them in the future. I am especially excited for Jack, he is super intriguing.

Taking everything into account,  Wild Love by Rebecca Jenshak is a novel that has everything I love in a romance story: friends-to-lovers, opposites attract, sport theme (bonus point because it is a hockey one), characters with whom you can easily fall in love with, amazing writing, great plot, promising new characters.

Reading the Campus Nights books was one of the greatest reading decisions I have ever made. I can highly and honestly recommend this series to anyone who is looking for a hockey romance in a college setting.
